My work often begins with art historical research into landscape imagery in historical paintings and drawings. I also collect material from landscapes that I find when walking, such a fragments of ceramics, pottery, wall and recently rubbish as evidence of human engagement and response to the landscape. Working with an image or find, sparks questions for me around what is fictive and what is truly observed within a past work. It also raises important questions for me around the environmental and social legacies of material culture and making.
