Where did I go?
Cannergio, Venice. Bellini's workshop was based here, in the San Martina area. Where exactly we don't know but he would have certainly been here, the Scuola Grande di San Marco. What was his walking route to the Scuola? What landscape imagery might he have seen as he walked around this area and can we we connect with his looking pathways today? Like all of my photographic surveying for this project, I use a walking, looking and photographic method in partnership with historic sources to connect with Bellini's looking processes, putting forth the argument that the St Francis painting is an environmental study of various landscape environments as well as an imaginative invention.
